QUITE A HOLIDAY WITH FAMILY

Recently in a national news item I read of a dysfunctional relationship which would certainly make for awkward family gatherings. In the state in which I lived for many years...and no it was not the state of confusion... a daughter posted on Facebook a rather direct rebuke of her father who was running for the state house. She wrote, "If you're in Michigan and are eighteen please for the love of God do not vote for my father. tell everyone. She followed up with a further explanation "I can't go into detail here but get on line and read about his beliefs."

I will not use their names but if you are eager to investigate further any number of google inquiries will take you to the story. In his response DAD explained that he loved his DAUGHTER and that they had a good relationship and that he respected her right to an opinion. He went on to explain that she was NORMAL until she went away to a progressive university -The University of Colorado- and was brainwashed by COMMUNIST faculty instructors. He continued his diatribe attacking public education and any institution not aligned with the CHRISTIAN Right.

This initiated thinking that perhaps Thanksgiving might be a bit dicey at the family table. It might start with the blessing. FATHER "and bless us all...except DAUGHTER... and this food to our use...may she choke on a bone...and may all good CHRISTIANS...those who agree with me...receive your grace. AMEN" "DAUGHTER, please pass the gravy."

There is no need for me to go any further. Each of you can come up with scenarios that far surpass what I might contribute. However, just imagine if Saturday Night Live of twenty five years ago applied the cast's creative juices to this what the results might be. In fact, I get a vivid picture what the brainstorming session would consist of. Imagine Dan Ackroid as the FATHER with Belushi, Murray and the rest as family seated around the table. Lily Tomlin would be the perfect DAUGHTER.

I first looked upon this story as a humorous insight into a family that might be classified as dysfunctional. However, upon closer scrutiny it is a sorry example of the state of politics in the USA. Closed minded politicians driven by obstructionisms… let's hear DJT pronounce that...have failed each of us, whatever your political leaning. It's a shame that a country known for leading the charge for DEMOCRACY is swirling down the sewer drain of HYPOCRACY.
